Types of Electricians

An electrician is a skilled tradesman practicing in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment, electrical systems, buildings, and related facilities. Electricians can be employed in both commercial and residential fields to provide a range of services. They perform various tasks, such as installing power panels, generators, circuits, wiring, etc. In addition, they also service industrial, agricultural, and hospital establishments. Below is a brief description of different electricians.electricians

The first type of electrician is the inside wireman. He is responsible for providing electricity from the mains to the various fittings and devices that make up an electrical system. Inside wireman are also called utility linemen, because they primarily work within the boundaries of a building or establishment. They are required to locate and inspect any electrical wiring within the premises of a structure. Inside wireman can usually be recognized by the flag shaped stickers that are commonly placed on the utility lines that he works.

The next type of electricians is the outside wireman. An exterior electrician oversees the supply of electricity to all parts of a structure, including individual buildings and houses. External electricians work in close cooperation with the interior electrician. They check the condition of electricity distribution, install and repair damaged wiring, and monitor all connections. They make sure that all electricity outlets are properly charged with electricity and that there are no leaks.

Then, there are commercial electricians. Commercial electricians are responsible for supplying electricity to large corporations, such as factories, businesses, hotels, hospitals, etc. Commercial electricians work along with utility installers and inspectors. Many commercial electricians have gained employment through franchises and work for a number of different companies.

There are also third class electricians. These kinds of electricians are not tied to any specific trade or organization and they work with different kinds of trades. For example, marine electricians are responsible for providing electrical power to marine vessels. A commercial marine electrician also installs and repairs electric poles, cables, transformers, and other electric wiring. Industrial electricians are the ones commonly referred to when talking about commercial electricians. These are the guys that you see running around putting up panels on roofs or welding pipes together.

Electricians can be divided further according to their line of specialty. One type of electrician is the inside wireman, which is responsible for installing electrical wiring within buildings and homes. The next is the outside electrician, who makes sure that the building’s exterior is in compliance with local codes. Finally, there are the different types of electricians such as those that install and repair transformers, generators, and even GPS equipment.

There are many different kinds of electricians who perform different types of jobs. In order to distinguish one from the next, they are sometimes classified according to whether they have a license to do certain tasks or not. For example, an electrician must hold a license to operate a crane or wheelchair lifts, but not necessarily a permit to install heavy machinery in residential buildings. Having said that, there are electricians who work solely in residential settings, installing and repairing all types of household electrical devices. There are even electricians that specialize only in installing and repairing smoke alarms.

Most construction electricians and marine electricians work in private businesses or government buildings. Commercial construction electricians are responsible for the installation and maintenance of businesses, office buildings, warehouses, industrial centers, schools, hospitals, malls, and public transportation systems. On the other hand, commercial marine electricians are responsible for laying out and maintaining the interiors of marinas and warehouses. Whatever type of electrician you are looking for, the Internet will be a rich source of job listings and potential employers.

EPA Ruling Caps Production of HFCs in Refrigeration

WASHINGTON, DC — In what officials are calling a major step in combating global climate change, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has issued a final rule establishing a program to cap and phase down domestic production and consumption of climate-damaging hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), highly potent greenhouse gases commonly used in refrigerators and air conditioners.

The landmark program, announced today, will phase down the U.S. production and consumption of HFCs by 85% over the next 15 years, as mandated by the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, enacted in December 2020 as part of an effort designed to slow global warming, EPA officials said. HFCs are potent greenhouse gases commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, as well as foams and other applications.

The bipartisan AIM Act, backed by a coalition of industry and environmental groups, not only phases down HFCs, but also ushers in the use of more climate friendly and energy-efficient alternatives aimed at saving consumers money while protecting the environment, according to the EPA.

“Today, EPA is taking a significant step forward to tackle the climate crisis,” said EPA Administrator Michael Regan. “Cutting these climate ‘super pollutants’ protects our environment, strengthens our economy, and demonstrates that America is back when it comes to leading the world in addressing climate change and curbing global warming in the years ahead.”

“American companies are at the forefront of developing HFC alternatives and the technologies that use them, and the AIM Act provides these companies additional opportunities to continue to innovate,” Regan added.

EPA estimates that the cumulative net benefit of its action will amount to more than $272 billion from 2022 through 2050, and that the rule will yield cumulative compliance savings for industry. In 2036 alone, the year the final reduction step is made, the rule is expected to prevent emissions of the equivalent of 171 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) – roughly equal to the annual greenhouse gas emissions from one out of every seven passenger vehicles registered in the U.S., the EPA said. The total emission reductions of the rule from 2022 to 2050 are projected to amount to the equivalent of 4.6 billion metric tons of CO2 – nearly equal to three years of U.S. power sector emissions at 2019 levels.

EPA officials said the agency will work with the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security to prevent the illegal import and trade of HFCs through an interagency task force led by personnel from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations and EPA.
